Water-decal Wednesday: Full Nail decals from bornprettystore

Hello everyone!  It appears I've got a bit of a backlog of water decal nail art to show you, so for the next few weeks I'll be sharing these on a Wednesday...

My top tips for great water decal application:

  • Paint your nails a base colour (for full nail decals I always paint a white base coat)
  • Let this dry completely
  • Prepare all of your decals in advance and cut to size around where they will be positioned on the base/sides of your nails (any overhang on your tips can be filed off)
  • When soaking in the water to remove the decal from it's backing, make sure they've soaked enough (but not too much) before removing from the backing - too little and you'll probably stretch/ruin the decal, too much and the adhesive will have soaked off.  I usually leave them about 30 seconds and then try and judge it (carefully) from there.
  • Good quality decals will adhere to your nails pretty easily and quickly.  However, when it's a full nail decal, it sometimes can take a bit longer so I usually smooth down carefully and either leave a few minutes to set, or ill give it a quick blast from the hairdryer on a (non-finger burning!) heat.
  • Once dry, apply a top coat, and rock your fingers out!

Hello!  This is a manicure I did ages ago that's been sat in my drafts for ages.  I guess it just kept ending up at the bottom of the list and I forgot about it!

Anyway, here is a fun fishtail manicure, with loads of different colours on the go, vaguely going from light to dark...

Sunday Slot: Guest post from Hellznails

Hello everyone!  I'm looking to introduce a Sunday Slot to allow other bloggers to showcase their work on my blog...  Today is the first week and we have Helen from Hellznails - Helen is a fellow UK blogger and is pretty ace at stamping (something I just have never managed to master!).  If you fancy having a slot on my blog, feel free to drop me a line at nuthinbutanailthing@gmail.com and I can schedule you in...

Hi everyone I'm Helen and blog over at Hellznails and I'm thrilled to be posting here on Claires blog today. Claire is an amazing nail artist and I love all her swatches and polka dot manis so I decided to take inspiration from both her polka dots and the gorgeous black, white and gold set of nails she did recently here.

I've recently rejoined the nub club after a week of water-sports in Lanzarote so I really hope my tiny nails do my inspiration justice!

For my black, white and gold mani I used China Glaze White On White, True Brit London Taxi Cab and Models Own Chrome Rose along with different sized dotting tools, striping tape and the stamping plate Qgirl-018. A thick layer of Seche Vite topcoat finished them off nicely and will protect them until I'm ready to change them again.

As they are metallic and glossy they are quite tricky to capture in a photograph so I have taken one in the shade to hopefully show the design off.

A huge thank you to Claire for letting me guest post here today, I've really enjoyed making my post and hope you have all enjoyed reading it too.

Thanks so much Helen - I really love this manicure!  The dots are so neat and the overall look is great!

Hello!  I've gone for a combination of BRIGHT and BLINGY today.

Bright and blingy nail art design ideasBright and blingy nail art design ideas

I did this manicure to match up with the colours on a flowery dress I have, as I wanted to tie in to the outfit but not match my nails too much (which is why I went for colour blocks and diamantes instead of a flower pattern).

Rimmel - White Hot Love

Hello!  I used to be fairly fickle when it comes to my white "go-to" polish, however this has been a firm favourite for a couple of years now.  I go through so much white as I pretty much start all nail art with a white base, I need a polish that's opaque in 1-2 coats, and dries quickly - and this is just the ticket.

Rimmel - White Hot LoveRimmel - White Hot Love

My previous favourite used to be Sinful Colors, but that's pretty much impossible to get hold of in the UK now.  Rimmel White Hot Love is easy to get hold of (they even sell it in the supermarket so this is great for me.

Sunday Slot: Guest post from Daziebugnails

Hello everyone!  I'm looking to introduce a Sunday Slot to allow other bloggers to showcase their work on my blog...  Today is the second week and we have Amanda from Daiziebugnails - Amanda has some beautiful swatches and nail art over on her blog, so do pop over and take a look.  If you fancy having a slot on my blog, feel free to drop me a line at nuthinbutanailthing@gmail.com and I can schedule you in...

Hi there, I’m Amanda visiting today from my blog https://daiziebugnails.wordpress.com  I blog mainly as a hobby but would like to take it more seriously when my son starts school in a few years time. I am a trained nail technician but have hardly been able to work since qualifying due to ill health.

Today I have for you some simple stamped nail art on an A-England base colour. I hadn’t used A-England before but fell in love with their colours on Instagram. I ordered 3 colours directly from their website http://www.a-england.co.uk but have since found that you can buy them cheaper from www.hypnoticpolish.com if you spend enough money to justify the postage.

O.K, back to this mani - For the base colour I have used A England's ‘Kalinka' from their 'Russian Soul Collection’. It is a stunning lilac toned silvery metallic with hints of holographic. The formula was sightly thicker than your average indie polish so went on in two coats, in fact you could probably even just use one coat and be happy with it if you were in a rush.

For the stamping I used Models Own 'Chrome Indigo’ with the Born Pretty transparent stamper (which is my current go to stamper) and MoYou London stamping plate ‘Time Traveller 05’. I’m still not great at stamping so it is a bit wobbly but I still liked the out come.

I’d love to know what your thoughts are on A-England polishes? as at present I only own three shades.

Thanks for having me today Claire and thank you for reading. To see more of my work please pop over to my I.G.  which is: https://www.instagram.com/daiziebug_nails (it is reasonably new) and my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/daiziebugnails

Bye for now! x

Thanks so much Amanda - this is so pretty!

Hello everyone!  Today I have MO from Pretty Quirky doing a guest spot.  She's got some absolutely beautiful nail art over on her blog, please do go over and check it out!  If you fancy having a slot on my blog, feel free to drop me a line at nuthinbutanailthing@gmail.com and I can schedule you in...

Hey there Nuthin' But a Nail Thing readers.

I'm MO from Pretty Quirky and Claire has kindly let me take over her blog for a day and guest post. As one of the first nail blogs I started to read this is a huge honour and so I'm super excited to be here.

Two lovely friends of mine tied the knot this week and big group of family and friends are going to celebrate their marriage this weekend. I love weddings (who doesn't, right?) and of course, weddings mean wedding nails.

For this mani I chose to combine stamping and freehand to match the blue and white lace dress I'd decided to wear. I started out with a couple of coats of Opi You Callin' Me a Lyre? and then stamped over this with an image from plate BP-L020 from the Born Pretty Store and Mundo de Unas White. The roses were added in with acrylic paint and are almost a match for the blue of the dress.

I had only just got in to nails by the time I got hitched and can't help but think that's a good thing. It would almost certainly have resulted in a Bridezilla moment and I think I'd take longer deciding on wedding nails than I did choosing the wedding dress! But it's so much fun dressing them up as a wedding guest instead.

I hope that you like this mani and once again, thank you Claire for letting me share this with your readers. It's incredibly kind of you and very much appreciated.

Thank you so much MO - this manicure is absloutely adorable!  I love it!

Sunday Slot: Guest Post from The Polish List

Hello everyone! This week we have the lovely Vicky from The Polish List with a beautiful manicure.  Vicky really does create really beautiful nail art and her swatch photos are always immaculate and beautifully presented - do go and check out her blog!

If you fancy having a slot on my blog, feel free to drop me a line at nuthinbutanailthing@gmail.com and I can schedule you in...

---------------------

Hello lovely people. I'm Vicky and I have a blog called The Polish List. I am so excited to be a guest on Claire's blog today! I have been following nuthin' but a nail thing for ages, her gorgeous nails and iconic nail art always draws me in and I'm always drooling over her nails (I can barely keep a free edge, let alone any length). Whenever I think of Claire's nail art two things pop to mind ... 'Dots' and 'Black & White'. I've used those 2 themes to create some nail art today and I've given it an autumnal twist, because I'm loving the change in seasons right now.

For this mani I used all Primark colours. I have a massive pile of them next to me ready to swatch, so it was easy to reach for them for this nail art. The base was 'red' (very creative Primark) and the dots were made using 'optic', 'twilight', bronze' and 'dark red'.

I chose to do the dots in a circular style as Claire so often does. However the design works 100 times better on her lovely long nails and in the end my dot circles ended up looking more like strange flowers, probably because I added dots to the centres. To finish I added some silver studs (why I didn't pick gold I don't know ... massive nail blogger fail).

I'm loving this design, it's so simple but yet looks really intricate. I've also had so many compliments on it, something which rarely happens.

I want to thank you all for taking the time to read my post and obviously want to thank Claire for allowing me to post on her amazing blog. It's be an honour, the last couple of 'Sunday Slot' posts have been gorgeous and I look forward to seeing many more amazing nail bloggers share their talent in the future. Vicky xx

---------------------

Thanks so much Vicky - this is such a beautiful manicure (and I think you are being far too harsh on yourself, as always your nails look flawless!).  I've not tried any Primark polishes before but I may need to check them out - that deep red has my name on it!

If you aren't following The Polish List already, here are the links you need!

Hello!  I've got some lovely decals to show you today from a brand I've not tried before - Nicole Diary

Nicole Diary - Full Nail Water DecalsNicole Diary - Full Nail Water Decals

These were really great quality and easy to use.  I painted my nails with a base coat of white, and then as the pattern comes on a sheet, I cut to size, and then soaked in water then applied to my nail.

Simply file off any lose edges then finish with a top coat.  One thing I sometimes struggle with is that my nails can be too long for full nail decals, but these still had about 0.5cm room for maneuver which was great!
